Jonathan Stone. Amazon/Thomas & Mercer, $15.95 trade paper (296p) ISBN 978-1-5039-3485-6

Chas Stanton, the narrator of this fun house of a thriller from Stone (The Teller), serves as the enabler for Archer Wallace, better known as Wallace the Amazing, who astounds his Las Vegas, Nev., and TV audiences with his knowledge of their most intimate secrets. Chas employs his computer skills to dig out in advance the personal details Wallace uses. Their system works well until the night Wallace starts revealing facts about Dave and Sandi Stewartson, who do not at all resemble the couple Chas researched—and yet they act as if they are that couple. In his attempts to uncover who the Stewartsons really are and why they are pretending to be people they aren’t, Chas discovers that much of what he knows about Wallace and even his own history is incomplete, misleading, or misunderstood. The surprise-filled plot shifts rapidly between illusion and reality, keeping the reader constantly—and entertainingly—off-balance. Agent: Jill Marr, Sandra Djikstra Literary Agency. (May)
