Vacation Wars

A woman conspires with her childhood crush to evade her sister’s outlandish attempts to find her a partner in this over-the-top rom-com from Quinn (Runaway Groomsman). Tessa is ready for a relaxing week in Greece with her twin sister, Roxane, and their two best friends before family arrives for Roxane’s destination wedding. She’s not expecting Myles, the man she’s been crushing on for decades, to reappear as a member of the resort staff or for Roxane to insist on “taking control” of Tessa’s love life, as per a contract the group made as teens about what would happen if they were still single at 30. Despite an awkward reunion (Tessa is prone to word vomit), Myles offers to help Tessa escape her sister’s relentless attempts to throw her at any man who looks her way. In exchange, Tessa offers her financial skills to help Myles pitch his father, the resort’s owner, on expanding to a new location. As they plot to counter Roxane’s scheming, the crushes they’ve both held since childhood only grow. The romance itself feels rushed, and though the characters’ cartoonish antics lead to some funny moments, the shtick grows tiresome with no real emotion to ground the slapstick. This is strictly for Quinn’s diehard fans. Agent: Aimee Ashcraft, Brower Lit. (Apr.)
