Here you’ll learn how to craft a brief, compelling pitch to cut through the noise and pique the interest of your target audience—editors and producers. You’ll learn how to craft a pitch that complements your release to further engage editors’ interest. Plus, you’ll get tips on timing and follow-up, how to use celebrity and author blurbs in your releases and how to coordinate social media efforts with your publicity campaign.
Session II
It Takes a Village: Collaborating to Create a Publicity Plan That Works
October 2, 2018, 1:45-2:30 p.m. ETDeveloping a publicity plan is essential to the success of your media outreach, and collaboration is key in getting those plans off the ground. This session will cover what goes into creating a dynamic publicity plan, starting with how to kickstart a conversation about your book and make connections. You’ll see models of campaigns that have worked, with ideas to help get you started and tips for creating an effective plan to get your book reviewed.
Publicity Workshop
Each participant in the course will have the opportunity to submit a press release and publicity plan for feedback and edits by a course facilitator. The facilitator, an experienced publicist, will provide personalized guidance and edits, so you will walk away with materials that are ready for you to finalize and use to promote your book.
Marika Flatt has been a book publicist over two decades and the owner of PR by the Book for 16 years. She has written hundreds of pieces of press material and media pitches and trained dozens of publicists on the art of media pitching. She also serves as Associate Editor of Texas Lifestyle Magazine.
