Here it is Valentine's Week. We are being bombarded by ads for flowers, candy and jewelry. I recently saw a cartoon that asked, "When did Valentine's Day start coming so soon after Christmas?" I can understand that sentiment. How about a nice romantic book for that special someone? While there are plenty out there to choose from, here's a couple of special Valentine's stories to put you in the mood. ...Read More

![]() Thought we'd start the WW Ladies Book Club off with a smile today. A couple go on vacation to a fishing resort in northern Minnesota. The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn. The wife likes to read. One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and takes a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and continues to read her book. Along comes a forest policeman in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you doing?" "Reading a book," she replies, (thinking "Isn't that obvious?"...Read More

![]() Friday night saw Amazon pull a fast one on Macmillan by pulling all the buy buttons on their books. This included the bestsellers, top releases and Kindle titles. While the Macmillan books are still shown, they can only be purchased through other sellers, the Kindle books aren't available at all (I checked this morning to see if anything changed). Not only this, but Amazon also went into reader's Kindles and removed Macmillan titles from their wish lists and sample chapters that had already been downloaded. Macmillan responded to the Amazon move with the following letter from John Sargent addressed to All Macmillan authors/illustrators and the literary agent community: This past Thursday I met with Amazon in Seatt...Read More

![]() Apple unveiled their highly anticipated iPad. It looks like the kind of eReader I've been waiting for. But while enthusiastists are itching to get their hands on the device that looks like an iPod on steriods, others are having problems getting past the name. Twitter and Facebook was burning up with jokes about the moniker that brings up images of feminine hygiene products. The hottest trending topic on Twitter is iTampon. "Were there no women in the Apple think tank when they came up with iPad for a name?" "Got your period? There's an app for tha...Read More

![]() I receive about a hundred books a month. They come from publishers, authors, publicists and friends. Soon they pretty much all blend together. Then every once in a while one arrives so cleverly packaged that it makes you sit up and take notice. One arrived the other day. It was in a plain brown envelope, but it was stamped with "Fugitive Survival Kit." Inside the package were a toothbrush, wig, sunglasses, $50 dollar bill (a little smaller than a real one, but believable), a postcard from Colorado that read "What a long, strange trip it's been...Rosemary" and a black backpack. Of course, it also included the book, Dead Head by ...Read More
