America's Next Best Celler ContestJune 3, 2009![]() Sorry this is a day late, but I was lucky enough to catch a 6:30 a.m. direct flight home as opposed to flying from NY to Atlanta and then on to Milwaukee. Bad part is that I needed sleep (I know, I'm a slacker) and didn't get the blog done like I wanted to. So just pretend it's yesterday when you read this. Monday I got to visit the Dorchester office for lunch. They are are great bunch and you'll have to catch the Drive by Video™ at the bottom of the blog. They told me about a great contest they have going called America's Best Celler Contest. It's done like a serial where you post just 500 words at a time. It's kind of an American Idol for writers with judges and everything. I was even asked to be
Monday night was very special as I had another chance to visit Lady Jane's Salon. New York's first (and so far only) romance fiction reading series. The readers were Marjorie M. Liu, Wendy Corsi Staub, Diane Gaston & Amanda McCabe. They all read selections from their books and had the crowd eating out of their hands. The donations of money and gently used romance novels are given to battered women's shelters and women's prisons. A wonderful charitable event. I wish we had a venue like that here. Look for the WW Ladies book club blurbs on Friday this week because tomorrow I'll have a special blog about What is Women Fiction? And there will be a very special Drive By Video™. ![]() Now I want you to meet MSG. N. Noel Delacruz. He's been in the Army for 17 years and was my seat partner on the plane. He was on his way to San Francisco to attend the retirement of his brother from the Air Force. But his story doesn't end there. He has 17 members of his family in the Armed Forces with his father serving in all of them including the Coast Guard and retiring from the Army after 17 years. Noel also informed me that 2 more of his nephews have already pledged to sign up when they are old enough. So, here's to 3 generations of heroic Americans. I thank you and your family from the bottom of my heart. Finally, please visit the Word Wenches who are offering a special tribute to Edith Layton who passed away Tuesday. Edith, you will be missed. You can leave comments for her family there. Bottom Line: What can I say, I heart NY and can't wait to get back in July for Thrillerfest. Still no DeNiro sighting. <sigh> Posted by Barbara Vey on June 3, 2009 | Comments (11)
