Inheritance, the fourth and final book in Christopher Paolini's bestselling children's series, moved a hefty 489,500 copies in print, digital and audio combined in its first day on sale, on November 8. The numbers, according to Random House Children's Books, give Inheritance the highest first-day sales of any book published in 2011, thus far.

RH said that hardcovers dominated the sales, with an 83% to 17% split of print to digital. Paolini started what will be an 18-city tour for the book on Tuesday night in New York City, at the Union Square Barnes & Noble. According to the publisher, the series has sold 25 million copies worldwide.
