Fuzzy by Tom Angleberger and Paul Dellinger. Amulet, $14.95; ISBN 978-1-4197-2122-9. In this middle grade novel, the newest student at Vanguard Middle School is Fuzzy, a robot developed as part of a government project exploring advanced artificial intelligence.

88 Instruments by Chris Barton, illus. by Louis Thomas. Knopf, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-553-53814-4. It’s time to choose an instrument, and the protagonist of this picture book discovers that each in the shop has a distinctive, superlative quality: the accordion is “the squeeziest,” a triangle is “the easiest,” a trombone is “the slideyest.”

Bonesville by Jean-Luc Fromental, illus. by Joëlle Jolivet. Abrams, $18.95; ISBN 978-1-4197-2277-6. A bone-stealing monster is attacking the skeletal citizens of Bonesville, and Sherlock Bones must solve the mystery in the latest picture book from Fromental and Jolivet, the duo behind 365 Penguins.

The Edge of the Light by Elizabeth George. Viking, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-6700-1299-2. This novel concludes the YA mystery series set on Whidbey Island, in which various characters are struggling with drug use, family illness, and complicated attractions to each other.

Poptropica Book 2: The Lost Expedition by Mitch Krpata, illus. by Kory Merritt. Based on a concept by Jeff Kinney. Abrams/Amulet, $9.95; ISBN 978-1-4197-2129-8. In the second volume of this humorous, highly illustrated middle grade series, three friends search for their home, while facing expulsion from the mysterious island upon which they find themselves.

Giraffes Ruin Everything by Heidi Schulz, illus. by Chris Robertson. Bloomsbury, $16.99 (40p) ISBN 978-1-61963-475-6. The redheaded narrator of this picture book just can’t shake a pesky giraffe that is always in the way.
