For fans of Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye (Quirk, Nov. 2016) by Tania del Rio, illustrated by Will Staehle, starring a 12-year-old budding sleuth and sole heir to his family’s rundown – and kinda creepy – hotel, today is a lucky day. To celebrate the success of the debut book in the Warren the 13th series, and to whet the appetite of readers awaiting the March 21 release of book 2, Warren the 13th and the Whispering Woods, Quirk is rolling out a brand new original short story by del Rio and Staehle about Warren’s decidedly unlucky Friday the 13th. Naturally, the story, and a big online promotion, are launching on Friday, January 13th. But here’s the lucky part: we’ve got it a day early! Click here for an exclusive look at the new tale, which is part of an activity booklet containing other treats for readers.

Quirk is giving the series and original content a big push in other ways as well. A sizeable roster of children’s book bloggers including Tammy Shelnut of Blue Roses Heart, Cheryl Koch of Cheryl’s Book Nook, Rosemary Kiladitis of MomReadIt, and Christine Hernandez at Squinklebooks, will feature the short story and post about it on Friday.

Additionally, Quirk has partnered with DOGO Books/Biblionasium, the site where kids review children’s books, to feature early feedback on Whispering Woods. And activity on Quirk’s social media accounts will be tied in to the Warren promotion on Friday the 13th as well.

According to Nicole De Jackmo, director of publicity and marketing at Quirk, pulling out the stops for Warren and his fans made perfect sense. “With its Gothic design and an unlucky but charming main character, celebrating the series on Friday the 13th seemed like a natural fit,” she said. And with our sneak peek, even those with paraskevidekatriaphobia (look it up!) can join in the fun.
