Last month, British author Liz Kessler embarked on a West Coast tour in celebration of the release of Emily Windsnap and the Falls of Forgotten Island (Candlewick), book seven in her bestselling Emily Windsnap series for middle graders. The tour kicked off on March 20, the day of the book’s launch, at Linden Tree Books in Los Altos, Calif., with additional stops in San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, and Seattle. We’ve gathered a selection of highlights from the events, which featured readings, signings, Q&As, and more.

A local Girl Scout troop attended Kessler’s (back row, center) meet-and-greet event at Hicklebee’s in San Jose on March 21. Thin Mint cookies are a suggested pairing for Emily Windsnap’s new adventure.

The author greeted a fan and her father at Hicklebee’s. The girl brought her dad to the store to get a signed book of her own, after hearing Kessler speak at her school earlier that day.

Kessler read an excerpt from Emily Windsnap and the Falls of Forgotten Island during an appearance at Linden Tree Books in Los Altos.

Hogan Cedars Elementary School in Gresham, Ore., created a welcome sign for Kessler. The author met with 300 students in grades three through five during her visit.
