Smith and Wein chronicle the history of Black pilots, including Cornelius Robinson Coffey, Bessie Coleman, Janet Harmon Bragg, and more.

Bear Finds Eggs by Karma Wilson, illus. by Jane Chapman. McElderry, $18.99, ISBN 978-1-665-93655-2. In the latest in the Bear Books picture book series, Mama Meadowlark has lost her eggs and enlists Bear and his friends to help find them.

Beasts of War by Ayana Gray. Putnam, $19.99; ISBN 978-0-593-40574-1. Finally free from the powerful god Fedu, Koffi and Ekon reunite and gather allies for a battle in the conclusion to Beasts of War series.

A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel. Disney/Riordan, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-368-09268-5. In this retelling of the Medusa myth, 16-year-old Manisha is imbued with new power after being assaulted and pushed into a pit of vipers. When the king unknowingly sends her lover Pratyush to stop her from destroying everyone in her path, Manisha grapples with her desires for vengeance and love. Escaping Mr. Rochester by L.L. McKinney. HarperTeen, $19.99; ISBN 978-0-06-298626-9. McKinney’s Jane Eyre retelling follows Black 19-year-old Jane, who is working as a governess for Edward Rochester. As her friendships with Mr. Rochester’s daughter and secretly confined wife grow stronger, Jane fears that her employer has sinister intentions in hiring her. Gravity Is Bringing Me Down by Wendelin Van Draanen, illus. by Cornelia Li. Knopf, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-5933-7592-1. Leda contends with the power of gravity as she has several slips and accidents.

If I Promise You Wings by A.K. Small. Algonquin, $18.99 336p ISBN 978-1-6437-5028-6. Alix Leclaire and her best friend since childhood, Jeanne, have a pact to achieve their greatest dreams. After Jeanne’s sudden death, Alex takes off to France to fulfill their promise to each other.

Just One More Sleep: All Good Things Come to Those Who Wait... and Wait... and Wait by Jamie Lee Curtis, illustrated by Laura Cornell. Philomel, $18.99 32p ISBN 978-0-593-52704-7. After a child’s birthday, they anticipate day by day the next time they’ll get to celebrate their next one.

K Is in Trouble by Gary Clement. LB Ink, $13.99 paper; ISBN 978-0-316-46860-2. In this debut graphic novel, K somehow always manages to find himself in trouble despite his generous and kind outlook.

Keep Dancing Through: A Boss Family Groove by Allison Holker Boss and Stephen “tWitch” Boss. Disney Hyperion, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-368-09219-7. From celebrity dancer Holker Boss and her late husband comes a tale of a family dancing their way through the ups and downs of a typical day.

Nightshade Revenge by Anthony Horowitz. Philomel, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-593-69139-7. When criminal organization Nightshade kidnaps his best friend, spy Alex Rider is beholden to the organization’s will until he can find a way to save his friend, in the 14th installment of the Alex Rider series.

Not Quite a Ghost by Anne Ursu. Walden Pond, $19.99; ISBN 978-0-062275-15-8. Sixth grader and middle child Violet Hart gets stuck with the room in the attic in her family’s new home and worries that she may have a ghost for a roommate.

One Sweet Song by Joyti Rajan Gopal, illus. by Sonia Sánchez. Walker Books US, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-5362-1981-4. Music brings the members of a community together to count out loud in this picture book.

Pepper & Me by Beatrice Alemagna. Hippo Park, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-66264-050-6. Alemagna chronicles the rich relationship that develops between a child and the scab that forms on their leg after a tumble on some cobblestones.

A Place for Vanishing by Ann Fraistat. Delacorte, $19.99 464p ISBN 978-0-593-38221-9. After Libby Feldman and her family move into her mother’s childhood home, which has a history of disappearances, Libby turns to her younger sister and new neighbor for help investigating the secrets surrounding the property. Shark Teeth by Sherri Winston. Bloomsbury, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-5476-0850-8. Twelve-year-old Sharkita has finally been reunited with her mother after being placed in foster care, but worries that things will go back to the way they were. The middle grade book received a starred review from PW.

So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole. Little, Brown, $19.99; ISBN 978-0-31653-463-5. Sisters Faron and Elara are considered heroes on the island of San Irie after the war against the Langley. When Elara is forced to retreat to Langley, the separated sisters will do whatever it takes to find their way back each other. The YA book received a starred review from PW.

Tree of Life: How a Holocaust Sapling Inspired the World by Elisa Boxer, illus. by Alianna Rozentsveig. Rocky Pond, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-5936-1712-0. This picture book biography recounts the resistance efforts of Irma Lauscher, who obtained a maple sapling in observance of the Jewish holiday Tu BiShvat, which became known throughout the Terezin ghetto as Etz Chaim, the Tree of Life.
