Little, Brown Books for Young Readers has announced the forthcoming publication of The Time Travel Twins, the first in a new middle grade series by James Patterson. Readers can expect the new title on September 9. LBYR president and publisher Megan Tingley acquired North American rights from Robert Barnett at Williams & Connolly LLC.

Co-written with Tad Safran, Patterson’s newest endeavor follows twins Pew and Basket Church on a time-traveling adventure. Pew and Basket are whisked to the Revolutionary War, where they encounter important historical figures while in pursuit of the adversary allegedly responsible for their parents’ death.

Patterson is the author of several bestselling works of adult fiction such as the Alex Cross series, as well as children’s series including Middle School, Maximum Ride, I Funny, and Treasure Hunters.

“Like all of my children’s books, the goal of The Time Travel Twins is for a kid to finish it and say, ‘Please, give me another book,’ ” Patterson said in a statement. “With lots of action, adventure, humor, a terrific story, and fun trivia, this novel makes it easy for kids to want to pick it up, read every word, and eagerly reach for another book.”

Patterson has plenty in store for young readers this year. Future projects with Little, Brown include The Secret Lives of Booksellers & Librarians and Eruption, both for adults, and picture book Fox Is Coming, illustrated by Joe Kulka.
