Random House has one new hire and one promotion. Gillian Levinson has joined Random House Children’s Books as paperback publishing manager; she was previously editor at Razorbill. Xiomara Nieves has been promoted to designer at Random House Books for Young Readers, from junior designer.

Kara Sargent will join Little, Brown Books for Young Readers as executive editorial director, brand, licensed, and media tie-in publishing on January 5. She was formerly an editorial director at Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, where she oversaw the Simon Spotlight imprint.

Simon Spotlight has three promotions. Siobhan Ciminera has been promoted to editorial director; she was previously executive editor. Beth Barton has been promoted to editor; she was previously associate editor. Chloe Fraboni (formerly Chloe Perkins) has been promoted to assistant editor; she was previously editorial assistant.

Literary agent Stephen Barbara is joining InkWell Management on January 5; he spent six years as an agent at Foundry Literary + Media. His client list will move with him, including Lauren Oliver, Laura Amy Schlitz, Lisa Graff, Todd Strasser, Lexa Hillyer, Jess Rothenberg, and Leila Sales. Barbara also represents the companies Paper Lantern Lit and The Story Pirates.

Andrew Karre will join Dutton Children's Books as executive editor on January 12. Karre helped launch the YA imprint Flux and has been editorial director at Lerner Publishing Group for the last six years, overseeing Carolrhoda Books and founding Carolrhoda Lab. He has published first novels by such bestselling authors as Maggie Stiefvater, A.S. King, Carrie Jones, Varian Johnson, Blythe Woolston, and Carrie Mesrobian. In his new role he will focus on fiction and nonfiction for middle grade and young adult readers, and will remain based in St. Paul, Minn.

Marietta B. Zacker has been promoted to senior agent at the Nancy Gallt Literary Agency. She was previously an agent.

Nick Elliot has been promoted to assistant marketing manager at Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing; he was previously marketing coordinator.

Rex Ogle will join Little, Brown Books for Young Readers on December 8 as senior editor, brand, licensed, and media tie-in publishing. He was most recently a senior editor at Scholastic, where he worked on several properties, including the LEGO movie tie-in program, and before that worked at DC Comics.
