Starting this week through June 27, Kohl’s Department Stores are featuring children’s books by the author-illustrator team Philip C. Stead and Erin E. Stead in its 1,164 stores and on its website.

As part of the Kohl’s Cares program, the books – which include A Sick Day for Amos McGee, Bear Has a Story to Tell, And Then It’s Spring, and If You Want to See a Whale – are specially priced at $5. So are matching plush toys of elephants, bears, turtles, and whales. The net profit from the sale of each is donated to children’s health and education initiatives.

“The endearing Kohl’s Cares merchandise collection by Philip C. Stead and Erin E. Stead will inspire a child’s love for reading this summer with every turn of the page,” Bevin Bailis, Kohl’s senior v-p of communications and public relations, said in a statement.

“It feels great knowing that with every purchase, our books are helping children in communities around the country. It’s wonderful that the program connects reading with giving,” Erin Stead said.

Since 2000, Kohl’s has raised more than $274 million for kids’ health and education initiatives through the Kohl’s Cares merchandise program.
