A Big Win

The Educational Book and Media Association presented Wimpy Kid creator Jeff Kinney with the Jeremiah Ludington Memorial Award at its 50th anniversary conference on February 5. The award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the educational paperback business. Talking to the ‘Small Fries’

Eric Geron visited Brooklyn elementary school P.S. 261 on February 2 to present his graphic novel series Fry Guys (Andrews McMeel). Geron spoke with students about his career in writing and signed copies of his book.


A Family Chat

On February 3, author Cassandra Newbould (r.) appeared at Village Books and Paper Dreams in Bellingham, Wash., to present her new YA novel, Things I’ll Never Say (Peachtree Teen). She was joined in conversation by her daughter, Nico Newbould, and led the audience in a writing prompt. In the novel, Casey grapples with the loss of her brother and shifting feelings for her best friends.


‘Skating’ Towards Pub Day

Anthony Nerada recently headed on tour for his YA novel Skater Boy (Soho Teen). On February 8, he visited Powell's City of Books in Portland, Ore. Nerada (l.) appeared in conversation with author Rosiee Thor and held a book signing afterwards. Skater Boy follows the relationship between closeted bad boy Wes and ballet dancer Tristan as Wes comes to terms with his identity and future.
