Stat Shot, ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’
Hachette Book Group is gearing up to print 300,000 copies of The Cuckoo’s Calling (Little, Brown/Mulholland), following the revelation last weekend that author Robert Galbraith is actually a pseudonym of J.K. Rowling. Before the disclosure, sales of the book (at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan) could be described as modest at best, reaching 504 copies. After the true identity of the author was revealed, sales spiked, and the detective novel, which was hard to find, sold 376 copies in the week ended July 14. Below are the cities that posted the biggest sales of Cuckoo in the week.
Hachette is likely to sell lots of those newly printed books: Cuckoo’s Calling was the most-read review last week on publishersweekly.com.
The Battle of $9.99—the definitive account of the Apple e-book price-fixing case, written by PW senior writer Andrew Richard Albanese—has been updated. Customers who bought the original e-book can get the latest version for free at most e-tailers. The new edition contains an epilogue that discusses the verdict against Apple and what it means for the company.
