Audiobook publisher Brilliance Audio announced plans to add two-dimensional QR Codes—a coded “Quick Response” graphic linked to audiobook content—to its packaging that will allow consumers to instantly access free audio excerpts of the audiobooks they are considering. Consumers with barscanner apps can use their cameraphones to snap a picture of the QR code that will link them to the free audio excerpt.

The first package with the QR codes to be released will be The Land Of Painted Caves by Jean M. Auel, which will go on sale March 29. Audio excerpts of Brilliance Audio titles are generally available through the online resellers and provider sites Brilliance partners with. The addition of QR codes to physical packaging extends access to free audiobook excerpts to physical retailers and their customers.

“This simple and effective capability is a significant development in improving the customer experience in audiobook buying,” said Mark Pereira, general manager of Brilliance Audio, which is an Amazon subsidiary. “We will continue to innovate and make the right technology investments to support our authors with audiobooks in CD and digital formats. ”

“This technology is especially advantageous for top authors with large fan bases when we connect the physical world of audiobooks to the digital world,” Pereira added.
