Inkling, an interactive textbook publisher that reconceives textbook content for the iPad, has released Inkling 2.0, an upgrade of its software that adds new functionality for creating study groups, organizing notes, search and accessing discussion from experts.

The Inkling upgrade will allow students to more easily work together , adding the ability to have online discussions at any point in the book with classmates, professors or anyone on Facebook. Inkling texts often have detailed commentary and video from experts in the field and the upgrade will offer access to expert notes as well as suggested discussion points. Inkling 2.0 also organizes all of a students notes, bookmarks and highlights in one location on the app software and everything is saved to the cloud for easy access. And search results from Google or Wikipedia now appear right inside of the book/app and can be saved to the student notebook.

According to the company, more than 50 universities will be “recommending or requiring” the use of Inkling e-textbooks in the coming academic year.
