Princeton University Press is launching Princeton Shorts, a series of short nonfiction e-books that excerpt chapters from some of press’s bestselling and most influential titles. Princeton Shorts will launch November 9 with five e-book titles ranging in price from $1.99 to $4.99.

Princeton University Press director Peter Dougherty said the new venture, “joins content from some of Princeton’s most celebrated published titles with the genius of rapid, online delivery.” Princeton Shorts feature excerpted chapters that give the reader a quick and substantive take on the full book’s subject.

The number of excerpted chapters and the pricing of each book differs; some are about 20 pages while others run to nearly 100 pages. Some excerpt a single chapter while others excerpt multiple chapters. Pricing for each book will vary. Among the initial five titles are the Second Great Contraction (excerpted from Reinhart and Rogoff’s, This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly) $4.99; and On Victory and Defeat (excerpted from Clausewitz’s On War) $3.99.
