Joseph Campbell, Albert Whitman & Co. business director, died in Park Ridge, Ill. on August 5. He was 52 years old; the cause of death was not disclosed.

According to an obituary prepared by his Albert Whitman colleagues, Campbell started his career after college at Albert Whitman in 1993 as a customer service representative and worked his way up through the ranks, to supervisor and operations manager, before being named business director.

"Joe was a large personality that assisted in crafting who Albert Whitman has been for the last 30 years," wrote co-owners John Quattrocchi and Pat McPartland in a statement. "He cared deeply about sharing stories with kids and working with Albert Whitman & Co's contributors. We will long remember Joe’s honesty, friendship, and all the passion he brought to his work in publishing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all who called him a friend."

“Joe was an avid golfer and longtime Chicago sports fans (Cubs, not White Sox, of course), who always found time to spend with his mom, was a dedicated and proud uncle to his nieces and nephew, a lover of a Whoopercheesie at Superdawg, and was known for his great sense of humor and big heart," his colleagues stated in their remembrance. "His legacy in publishing will live on through the pages of the many books he helped get into the hands of readers around the world.”
