At a ceremony Monday night, Karen Russell won the New York Public Library's 2012 Young Lions Fiction Award for Swamplandia! (Knopf). The debut novel was chosen among five titles, beating out Open City by Teju Cole; The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore by Benjamin Hale; Leaving the Atocha Station by Ben Lerner; and Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward. The award, which is now in its 12th year, honors fiction by young writers and bestowes a prize of $10,000.
