Next year's BookExpo America will take place a week earlier than initially planned. The 2013 trade show is now set to run at New York City's Javits Center on Thursday, May 30 -- Saturday, June 1. Conference Day will take place on Wednesday, May 29.

The date change--the 2013 show was originally set to start on June 3--comes after conference organizers sought to find an earlier time slot at the Manhattan convention center in the hopes of lowering the cost to attend. BEA organizers said that the new dates should come with a drop in local hotel rates of between 10% and 20%. Show manager Steve Rosato elaborated: "This shift addresses the #1 issue that was out of BEA’s control which was the hotel prices in New York City. This works to everyone’s advantage … most notably, for our attendees, especially the ABA for whom hotel costs are a top priority."

Exhibitors will not need to pay any additional costs because of the date change, organizers also noted.

While not addressed in the press release, Rosato did note on his blog that the shift to a Thursday-Saturday schedule should make it easier to attract the public to the show if BEA officials decide to expand consumer participation in the event. In 2012, a limited number of the general public were invited to attend the show on Thursday, this year's closing day.
