Reed Exhibitions has released a potpourri of numbers related to this year's BookExpo and BookCon events that took place May 30-June 3 at New York City's Javits Center.

The total number of BookExpo attendees rose 2% in 2018 over 2017, reaching 7,732. The figure includes all retailers, librarians, authors, and other attendees, with the exception of exhibitors. Reed said 54% of total attendees were at the event for the first time. The number of exhibitors at the show was 473.

Bookstore attendance was up 8% in the year, pushing the number of booksellers and retailers to 1,073, while the number of librarians at BookExpo was 1,300. More than 1,200 members of the media covered BookExpo, Reed reported.

BookCon attendance held even at approximately 20,000. More than 5,600 books were sold in the autographing area, and the event attracted 324 exhibitors.

Final dates for next year's BookExpo and BookCon have not been officially announced yet, but it is likely to once again be held the last week in May.
