Word Up, the Washington Heights volunteer bookstore collectiveannounced a one-month reprieve before it must vacate its year-long home at 4157 Broadway in New York City. Originally slated to close at the end of the month, the community bookstore now has until the end of August to find a new place.
Although the collective is following up earlier leads for a new space, it still welcomes any suggestions for 1,000 sq. ft. space with a stage and storage close to its current location. Its lease is sponsored by the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance.
The store plans to continue to stay open daily from 2-9pm, while it continues to look for other options.
