Powell's Books will close two of its three concourse stores at the Portland International Airport at the end of June, when their leases expire. The first PDX location opened in 1988.

“The Port of Portland is working on a new vision for retail at PDX, and in spite of our efforts to negotiate a renewal of our leases and review other options for maintaining a concourse presence, we were unable to reach an agreement," said CEO Miriam Sontz, who shared the news in a company wide memo this week. Sontz added that Powell's regrets "deeply" the closure of the two stores.

The stores on concourses C and D will be shuttering June 30, while the Oregon Marketplace store, located ahead of airport security, will remain open.
