This coming weekend Deep Vellum Books of Dallas, Tx., will host a pop-up bookshop as part of the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit hosted by the NCAA College Football Playoff Foundation. The event, which caters to K-12 educators, coincides each year with the College Football Playoff National Championship, which this year is being played between Alabama and Clemson in Tampa, Fla. on January 9. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the Summit.

Deep Vellum Books opened in early 2016 as an offshoot of translation publisher Deep Vellum Publishing. Store co-founder Anne Hollander says the mission of the store is to promote small and independent presses. As such, the 25 ft. by 25 ft. pop-up Tampa store will offer 500 titles, “98% of which are from small and independent presses,” Hollander said.

The opportunity to open a pop-up so far from home came about after two women from Public City, the Texas-based event planning company promoting the Summit, walked into the store last November to buy some coffee. “It was more than mere serendipity," explained Hollander. "My mother has been a teacher for 36 years, so I have a good idea of what teachers need from a bookstore."
