6/16 Josh Neufeld & Brooke Gladstone in Brooklyn

Acclaimed comics creator Josh Neufeld and NPR’s Brooke Gladstone will celebrate the release of their new illustrated history of the media’s influence, The Influencing Machine, in Brooklyn with a special presentation. The event will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, at the powerHouse Arena, located at 37 Main Street, Brooklyn, NY. Admission is free to the general public and drinks will be served.

6/17-6/19 Kids Read Comics Festival

Featuring such guests as John Ostrander, Raina Telgenmeier and Rob Worley, the third annual Kids Read Comics Festival will take place on June 17-19 in Chelsea, Michigan. The Kids Read Comics Festival is a celebration of comics aimed at both young readers and teens, complete with workshops, puppet shows, art demonstrations, portfolio reviews for young artists, superhero crafts, a costume parade and a moon bounce. Kids Read Comics Festival 2011 will be located at the Chelsea District Library, 221 South Main Street, Chelsea, MI. Hours are 6 - 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12 – 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Kids Read Comics Festival has also sponsored The Super Fun Tour, a traveling series of events and workshops across Michigan, and a schedule of Super Fun Tour appearances can be found here.

6/17-6/19 Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con

On June 17-19, the 2011 Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con will take place in Philadelphia and feature such guests as J.G. Jones, Bill Sienkiewicz, Mike Grell and Humberto Ramos as well as pop culture icons such as Bruce Campbell and Richard Roundtree. Wizard World Philadelphia will be located at the Pennsylvania Convention Center at 1101 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA. Hours are 12 - 8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1o a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $30 for a one day pass and $50 for a weekend pass, children 12 and under may enter free of charge with a paying adult.

6/25 Level Up Launch Party & Workshop in San Francisco

Comics creators Gene Yang and Thien Pham will premiere their new graphic novel Level Up with a free comics workshop and launch party at the Cartoon Art Museum. Pham and Yang will sign and discuss their new book, as well as drawing comics with museum-goers The event takes place from 1 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at the Cartoon Art Museum located at 655 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA. Entrance is free with paid admission to the museum.
