4/19 Toonseum Fundraiser Party with Doug Sneyd in Pittsburgh, PA

Veteran cartoonist Doug Sneyd, cartoonist for Playboy since 1964, will be hosting a comics and cocktails party on April 19 at 7 p.m. at Pittsburgh's Toonseum comics museum. A benefit event for the museum, festivities will include a live interview with Sneyd, works by Sneyd on exhibit and for sale, free cocktails and live lounge music. Tickets are available online for $50 to the general public and $40 to Toonseum members. The Toonseum recently suffered serious losses to its collection, estimated at $25,000, after catastrophic roof damage to its comics storage site. The Toonseum is located at 945 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA.

4/23, 4/28-4/29 The Story of Rock 'N' Roll Comics Release Party and Screenings in New York, NY

On April 23 The Story of Rock 'N' Roll Comics, a documentary about controversial underground comics publisher Todd Loren and his unauthorized rock star biography comix, will screen in a special event at Cinema Village in New York City to celebrate its dvd release. The film runs 84 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A session with director Ilko Davidov and other members of the cast and crew. Covering the tumultuous and star-studded rise of Rock 'N' Roll Comics in the late 80's and early 90's and Loren's subsequent unsolved murder, the documentary features members of the comics and rock and roll community including Alice Cooper, Gene Simmons, Gary Groth, Denis Kitchen and Cynthia Plaster Caster among others. The film will subsequently show at two special brunch screenings on April 28 and 29 at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn, from 12-2 p.m. accompanied by a full service brunch and a post-movie Q&A with Davidov. Tickets to the Cinema Village screening are $11 for adults, $8 for students and $6 for seniors, and tickets to the Nitehawk brunches are $11 for general admission and $9 for students and seniors. Director Ilko Davidov and original Rock 'N' Roll Comics creators Jay Allen Sanford, Spike Steffenhagen and Robert V. Conte will be celebrating the history of Rock 'N' Roll Comics and the release of the dvd with a free party and signing on April 23 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Forbidden Planet comic book store. Copies of the dvd and the original comics will be available for purchase and signing. Forbidden Planet is located at 840 Broadway, New York, NY.

4/28-4/29 Stumptown Comics Fest in Portland, OR

On April 28 and 29, the 2012 Stumptown Comics Fest will take place in Portland, Oregon and feature such comic creator guests as Chris Samnee, Peter Bagge, Laura Allred, Stan Sakai and Kurt Busiek among many others. The 2012 New York Comic Con will be held at the Portland Convention Center at 777 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Portland, OR. Hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday and 12 - 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 general admission or $5 for students with ID for Saturday or Sunday or $12 for general admission and $10 for students with ID for the weekend when purchased in advance online at Tickets West.
