4/17 New York in Comics Panel with Al Jaffee, Danny Fingeroth & More in New York, NY

Danny Fingeroth and the Soho Gallery of Digital Art will be holding a panel discussion about the influence of New York on comics and comic creators. The panel will feature Al Jaffee of MAD Magazine, Peter Kuper of Spy vs. Spy, Dean Haspiel of Bored to Death, R. Sikoryak of Masterpiece Comics and the panel's presenter, DC Comics legend and comics historian Danny Fingeroth. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 17 from 7-9 p.m. Admission is $10 in advance through www.brownpapertickets.com and $15 at the door. 4/20-4/21 LA Times Festival of Books with Hope Larson, Derek Kirk Kim et al in Los Angeles, CA

On April 20-21, The LA Times Newspaper will hold their annual Festival of Books a special two day celebration of literature with a full slate of panels and programming. The festival will include two graphic novel-specific panels featuring prominent comics creators: "Graphic Novels: Drawing the Story" with Derek Kirk Kim, Leela Corman and Sammy Harkham on Saturday and "Graphic Novels: Adolescence Long & Drawn Out" with Hope Larson, Cecil Castellucci and Ron Koertge on Sunday. The 2013 LA Times Festival of Books will take place on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles will take place from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free to the general public, but preregistration is required for some indoor events.

4/25 Gabrielle Bell and Boulet Live at the Society of Illustrators in New York, NY

Acclaimed indepedent comics creators Gabrielle Bell and Boulet will appear live on stage at the Society of Illustrators in New York for round table discussion with academic comics librarian Karen Green about their lives and work. The two creators are known for their webcomics inspired by funny anecdotes from their lives. This event will take place on April 25 from 6:30-8:30. Tickets are $7 for students, $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The Society of Illustrators is located at 128 East 63rd St., New York, NY.
