Nominees for the 34th annual L.A. Times Book Prizes have been announced and include five finalists for the graphic novel prize. This year's finalists for the L.A. Times Book Prizes include 50 books in 10 categories.

Hand-Drying in America: And Other Stories by Ben Katchor (Pantheon)

Today is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life by Ulli Lust (Fantagraphics), which was also chosen as a PW Best Book of 2013.

The Great War: July 1, 1916: The First Day of the Battle of the Somme by Joe Sacco (W. W. Norton & Co.)

The winner of last year's L.A. Times Book Prize for graphic novels was Sammy Harkham's Everything Together: Collected Stories (PictureBox).
