CodeMantra, the technology and service provider to publishers and other content companies, has been acquired by a Boston-based investment group. The deal will provide codeMantra with the necessary resource to expand, said Walter Walker, executive director of publishing and who has been promoted to company president. “We had good growth under our previous owner, but we will now have the capital and management to take us to the next level,” Walker told PW. Among those in the new management team will be Ed Marino whose career includes a stint as head of Lightning Source. Marino is executive chairman of codeMantra. In a third executive appointment, Vaidyanathan (Nathan) Segaripuram, formerly codeMantra’s CFO, has been appointed CEO.

“We are very excited to be working with the codeMantra team to address the digital publishing needs of companies worldwide”, said Marino. Among the company’s plans are to extend the capabilities of its collectionPoint digital asset management and distribution platform and to allocate resources to develop software/service offerings in both digital pre-press and post-production. “The content market continues to evolve at a staggering pace. Managing that change and addressing the challenges confronting our publishing clientele is mission critical for codeMantra. Our new owners bring both the experience and resources essential to that mission,” said Walker.

CodeMantra headquarters will move to Boston while maintaining offices in the U.K., Italy and Asia. The company has a global workforce of about 1,100 with the majority in India.
