A senior management group has agreed to acquire the international academic publisher Peter Lang Academic Publishing. The executive team, led by Claude Begle, company chairman, bought the publisher from the Peter Lang Children’s Trust, which has controlled the house since the death of company founder, Peter Lang, in 2001.

Based in Switzerland, with subsidiaries in a number of cities around the world including New York, Peter Lang publishes about 1,800 new titles annually and has a 55,000-title backlist that covers subjects in all areas of the humanities.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Lang Trust said the organization decided to sell the company to focus on other initiatives. The deal is expected to be completed by mid-year and the new owners said they plan to continue to grow the company’s digital operations and to expand into new geographic locations including the Middle East and East Asia.
