OverDrive has announced that more than 400,000 e-book and audiobook titles are now available in its OverDrive Max program. OverDrive Max enables libraries to buy bundles of up to 100 loans for specific titles for concurrent use based on library users’ demands and with no expiration dates, often at the lowest cost. It is designed, OverDrive said, “to provide greater flexibility and value for library budgets.”

OverDrive has been running a six-month pilot of the program with 150 titles from HarperCollins. Among other publishers newly using OverDrive Max, which was launched in 2020, are Abrams Books, Blackstone, and RBMedia. Elizabeth Taylor, librarian at Pima County Public Library in Arizona, said: “I love this model not only for its cost-efficiency and its ability to eliminate long wait lists, but also because it’s great for book clubs and students of all ages.”

According to OverDrive, OverDrive Max is the fastest growing of the six available access models that it offers.
