Champaign, Il., publisher Human Kinetics has hit a milestone: its first million-copy seller. The 37-year-old publisher released the first English-language edition of Strength Training Anatomy in 2001 and the third edition pubbed early in 2010. The book, by French journalist and anatomical illustrator Frédéric Delavier, features more than 600 full-color illustrations of the muscles that are worked during strength training, as well as the surrounding structures, including bones, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue. The updated third edition has 48 additional pages, 12 new exercises, and 18 stretches.

Human Kinetics CEO Brian Holding learned about the book during a meeting with Delavier’s French publisher, Christian Vigot, at Frankfurt. Looking back, he said, "Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this book to sell one million copies."

Strength Training Anatomy has been translated into over 30 languages and spawned Human Kinetics’s successful Anatomy series, which includes Delavier's bestselling Women's Strength Training Anatomy. The Anatomy series has sold 1.8 million copies. Delavier's next book, The Strength Training Anatomy Workout, co-written with Michael Gundill, will be released in March 2011.
