Simon & Schuster has sent a letter to its authors touting some changes to the way it presents its royalty statement. The house claims the new format "flows more logically" while noting that "of course, the method by which royalties are calculated has remained unchanged."

In the new format, authors will receive a "payee summary" which details the advance and unearned balance (against that advance) for a title. The "title summary" lists cumulative earnings on a title, while the "sales detail" outlines sales activity on a title. There is also an added "subsidiary rights" category, which offers information on the number of units sold the licensee sold.
