Looking to give its authors a boost on the press circuit, Workman Publishing has launched an in-house Speakers Bureau. With the move the independent publisher joins the ranks of the "big six" and other major houses (like Perseus), which all have their own divisions dedicated to landing speaking engagements for their authors. Carol Schneider, who ran Random House's Speakers Bureau for a number of years during her time there, is overseeing the Workman division.

Schneider has been working on the Workman project for just about a year and said she is currently working on securing engagement for 17 authors, ranging from Patricia Schultz (1,000 Places to See Before You Die) to Heidi Durrow (The Girl Who Fell From the Sky). But that list, Schneider added, is just a start. "The roster will grow, and we’re happy to book dates for any author" published by any Workman imprint, she said.
