HarperCollins' Morrow Group has gained two new publishers. Peter Hubbard has been promoted to v-p and publisher of Mariner Books and Carrie Thornton has been promoted to v-p and publisher of Dey Street Books, Liate Stehlik, the president and publisher of the Morrow Group, has announced in a letter to staff. Both Hubbard and Thornton will continue to report to Stehlik.

Hubbard began his career with the Morrow Group, first as an editor for Morrow then as editorial director of Custom House. He was named editorial director of Mariner Books following HarperCollins's acquisition of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's trade division in 2021 and played a key role in uniting the Custom House and Mariner operations. He also helped launch Mariner Books Classics, a line showcasing the imprint’s extensive backlist. Among those edited by Hubbard are scientist Steve Brusatte, news anchors Bret Baier and Joy-Ann Reid, historian Adam Hochschild, novelist Tim O’Brien, and sportswriter Jeff Pearlman.

"Peter has a unique passion for the business of books and keen editorial instincts," Stehlik wrote. "As publisher, he will lead the Mariner team to publish nonfiction and fiction of lasting quality and significance, as well as maximize the rich HMH backlist."

Thornton joined HarperCollins in 2011 as an executive editor at It Books, and helped launch Dey Street Books in 2014. Books Thornton has edited include The Storyteller by rock musician Dave Grohl, Paris: The Memoir by Paris Hilton, Live Wire by Kelly Ripa, Perversion of Justice by Miami Herald reporter Julie K. Brown, Open Book by pop star Jessica Simpson, Yes Please by actress and comedian Amy Poehler, and multiple books by and multiple books with Alan Cumming, RuPaul, and Gabrielle Union.
