Guidebook publisher Lonely Planet has tapped Simon & Schuster alum Colin Shields for the newly created role of senior director of sales and marketing for North America. The position, the company said, is “designed to expand the company’s commercial footprint across the United States and Canada.”
Shields joins Lonely Planet after more than 20 years at Simon & Schuster, where he held a series of senior sales leadership roles spanning print, digital, domestic, and international markets. Most recently, he served as VP and executive director of global digital and international sales.
In a statement, Lonely Planet publisher and VP Piers Pickard said that Shields's “leadership across both traditional and digital channels will be pivotal to advancing that vision in North America.”
“I’ve long admired Lonely Planet’s ability to combine authoritative content with global reach,” said Shields. “This role is an opportunity to accelerate commercial growth in North America by deepening retail and distribution partnerships while evolving how we meet travelers and readers where they are.”
