Penguin imprint Tarcher, publisher of mind-body-spirit books, has forged a partnership with iUniverse to launch True Directions, an imprint for authors to self-publish books in the category.

Joel Fotinos, v-p and publisher of Tarcher, stated that True Directions would help him find new authors. “We will examine every True Directions title to determine which ones might best cross over into our Tarcher publishing program.” Tarcher recently acquired Timothy Pychyl’s Solving the Procrastination Puzzle from Author Solutions and is publishing its own edition in January 2014. Tarcher, like Author Solutions, is owned by Penguin Random House.

All True Directions titles will be reviewed by Tarcher editors and listed on the tarcherbooks.com Web site. Authors will receive access to Tarcher webinars and admission and “premier author seating” at Tarcher LIVE events, a series of consumer events launching early next year. Placement in a Tarcher e-newsletter and inclusion in Tarcher’s promotional mailings to key retailers are other potential benefits.

Author Solutions has worked with a number of publishing companies to establish self-publishing divisions.
