Carlton Garborg, former president of Summerside Press and Ellie Claire, has launched a new venture, Broadstreet Publishing. The house will publish fiction and nonfiction, as well as gift books under its Belle City Gifts imprint, with 18 fiction and 25 nonfiction books planned for 2014. Among titles releasing in September is Falling into Heaven: A Skydiver’s Gripping Account of Heaven, Healings & Miracles by Mickey Robinson, with a foreword by Don Piper (90 Minutes in Heaven). The book is his true account of seeing heaven after a plane crash, then returning to life.

Garborg told PW he quietly started the company in January and released a few titles in May, but did not formally announce the launch until now. “We wanted to keep a low profile, to get set up and running first." He said he decided to get back into publishing while seeking direction for the next phase of his life. “It’s something I felt God really wanted me to do.”

Guideposts acquired Ellie Claire, a gift line, and Summerside Press, a fiction imprint, from Garborg in 2010; Worthy Publishing purchased Ellie Claire from Guideposts in 2012. Guideposts shut down Summerside Press in 2013 when it got out of trade book publishing.

Broadstreet also is developing a new Bible translation, to be called the Passion translation, in partnership with Brian Simmons, who originally published it in several single books and sold 50,000 copies in 2012 and 100,000 in 2013. Broadstreet will begin releasing its editions (including simultaneous e-books) in September; Garborg said the New Testament would be completed by 2017, with the full Bible out in 8 years.
