Psychic mediums have long been fixtures on reality TV, with series such as the Long Island Medium on TLC and E!’s latest Hollywood Medium racking up large audiences. And soon bookstores will have new medium titles to shelve, with three coming from religion and spirituality publishers this summer.

The Happy Medium

By Kim Russo (HarperElixir, May)

Russo, the star and host of Lifetime Movie Network’s The Haunting Of who has a combined following of over 300,000 fans on Twitter and Facebook, is known as the medium to the stars. In her memoir, Russo weaves details of her celebrity readings together with her own life experiences, writing about the struggle to accept her psychic ability before discovering that the skill coincided with her Christian faith. “I actually feel as if my gift was enhanced because my heart was opened. My spirituality and closeness with God made that gift stronger, not weaker,” Russo writes. 30,000-copy announced first printing.

Life Between Heaven and Earth

By George Anderson and Andrew Barone (Harmony Books, June)

Anderson, known as the original Long Island medium, highlights nine case studies on families that have lost loved ones and the lessons they learned in his newest book. The author of bestsellers We Don’t Die and Lessons From the Light (both Berkley, 1989 and 2000) also makes a case for why our ideas about life and death fall short of reality. “Nothing is impossible in our life between heaven and earth,” he writes. “Just as we are unique in this world, so, too, is the journey we are on, and the resolution we will fashion from whatever we face in our lives.”

Medium: A Step-by-Step Guide to Communicating With the Spirit World

By Konstanza Morning Star (Llewellyn Publications, August)

“Mediumship is a natural human skill, and it can be developed just like you can learn how to read, write, calculate math, draw, drive a car, or play an instrument,” writes Morning Star, an ordained minister and certified medium. Exploring “spiritual senses” such as clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience, the author uses own experiences to explain how mediums perceive spirit people, encouraging readers to do the same. The book includes practices, exercises, meditations, prayers, and processes intended to help medium development.
