The University of Alabama Press seeks a creative and highly motivated senior acquisitions editor to join the staff of a thriving and enterprising publishing program of 70 to 75 scholarly, regional, and trade titles a year.

Ideal candidates are experienced publishing professionals with a demonstrated track record of achievement, and the ability to fulfill manuscript goals of 20-25 new book projects per year, within budget constraints and with a minimum of supervision. The candidate will have demonstrated familiarity with the fields or disciplines in which he or she acquires, which include but are not limited to archaeology, anthropology, ethnohistory, cognate fields, and the humanities generally. The candidate, with a high degree of independence, will recruit, commission, and sponsor manuscripts and authors; guide titles through the peer review process and press board approval; and prepare projects for the editorial and production process. The press has a special interest in candidates possessing skills and experience with online and digital publication formats, and innovative publication models.
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant full-time acquisitions experience in a scholarly or trade publishing environment. Candidates must also have excellent analytic and interpersonal skills, superior skills in oral and written communication, computer proficiency, and a willingness to travel to scholarly conferences. An advance degree in the field or fields of activity is preferred for the position of senior acquisitions editor.
The University of Alabama Press, founded in 1945, is the largest publisher in the state and is a proud member of the Association of American University Presses.
