NPR, Aspen Institute Team Up on New Literary Prize

NPR Books and the Aspen Institute are partnering on the inaugural Aspen Words literary prize, a $35,000 award which will be presented annually to a work of fiction that "demonstrates the transformative power of literature on thought and culture," according to a press release.

Publishers must nominate 2017 novels and short story collections by August 1. The longlist for the prize will be announced at the end of the year.

The finalists and winner will be selected by a five-member jury including librarians and award-winning authors such as Phil Klay and Akhil Sharma.
