2021 Scotiabank Giller Prize Shortlist Announced

The shortlist for the 2021 Scotiabank Giller Prize has been announced. The prize, founded in 2005, recognizes excellence in Canadian fiction and awards $100,000 to the winning author, and $10,000 to each of the finalists.


The 2021 Scotiabank Giller Prize shortlist is as follows: 

  • What Strange Paradise by Omar El Akkad (Knopf / McClelland & Stewart)
  • Glorious Frazzled Beings by Angélique Lalonde (House of Anansi)
  • The Son of the House by Cheluchi Onyemelukwe-Onuobia (Dundurn)
  • The Listeners by Jordan Tannahill (HarperCollins Canada)
  • Fight Night by Miriam Toews (Bloomsbury / Knopf Canada)

This year's jury comprises Tash Aw, Zalika Reid-Benta (chair), Megan Gail Coles, Joshua Ferris, and Joshua Whitehead. A total of 132 titles were submitted for consideration. The Scotiabank Giller Prize broadcast will take place on November 8, 2021, hosted by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Rupi Kaur.
