An Unsinkable Teen Thirst for DiCaprio
Daisy Maryles, with Cindi DiMarzo -- 3/2/98
Titanic's main selling point for preteen and teenage girls -- Leonardo DiCaprio -- is propelling two BDD Books for Young Readers paperbacks to the top of the charts. Leonardo DiCaprio: Modern-Day Romeo, released in February 1997, has 600,000 copies in print, having gone back to press 16 times (a revised edition is now available with a chapter about the movie), while Leonardo: A Scrapbook in Words and Pictures, text by Grace Catalano, just out this month, has an astounding 400,000 copies in print, indicating that DiCaprio has become as much of a phenomenon as the movie. Hoping to feed into what has become an insatiable appetite for DiCaprio-related items, Archway will release an original paperback, Leonardo DiCaprio: A Biography by Nancy Krulik next month, with a first printing of 185,000 copies.
