The Chicago-based distributor LPC Group has completed the asset purchase of Papier-Mache Press. Founded in 1983 by Sandra Martz, Papier-Mache filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and had been owned by Coast Commercial Bank for the past several months.

Included in LPC's purchase are the inventory and author contracts that formed the core of Papier-Mache's publishing program as well as a number of related books, mugs, T-shirts, stationery and posters. Papier-Mache is best known for its anthology When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple, which has sold more than 1.5 million copies.

LPC president David Wilk said the company's initial plans call for reviving the Papier-Mache list, adding that he may consider doing new anthologies at some point in the future. LPC is retaining Papier-Mache as an imprint and has named Robert Boyd as managing editor. Boyd will be based in LPC's Milford, Conn., sales and marketing offices and can be reached at (203) 877-8573.
