Elmore Leonard's latest bestseller, Mr. Paradise, is set in Detroit, and to thank the city's homicide detectives for helping with the novel's research, the author held a party for about 25 of the city's finest and made sure all received an inscribed copy. Leonard's seven-city tour kicked off in Miami and the book's #8 landing on our list was helped by a one-day laydown and glowing reviews, including a starred one in PW. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Frank Wilson even suggested that the author be considered for the Nobel Prize for literature. Morrow launched the book with a 200,000-copy printing.
