September bookstore sales rose 7%, to $1.55 billion, and were up 2.8% for the first nine months of 2011, according to Census Bureau estimates.

Krauss Back to Crown

Pam Krauss will be replacing Lauren Shakely in the top post at Clarkson Potter. Shakely, who is currently senior v-p and publisher of the Clarkson Potter group—which includes Potter Craft, Potter Style, and Watson-Guptill—is leaving Random House at the end of December. Krauss, who was at Potter until she left in 2008 for Rodale, will be stepping into the v-p/publisher job in January.

Courier Corp. finished fiscal 2011 with sales of $259.4 million, up from $257.1 million in fiscal 2010, although one-time impairment and restructuring charges and a $700,000 Borders write-off led to a decline in earnings in the year to $134,000, compared to $7.1 million last year.
