U.K. publishing house Pan Macmillan announced plans to launch Macmillan Compass, a new digital only publishing imprint. While the new imprint will release e-books for all formats and distribution will be through Pan Macmillan’s established channels, it has not been determined as yet if the e-titles will be available for sale in the U.S.

The new digital publishing imprint will be managed by Pan Macmillan fiction publisher Jeremy Trevathan and digital director Sara Lloyd. Trevathan said, “We believe we are the right partner for agents because in addition to our proven digital skills, we will bring all the attributes and reputation of the Macmillan brand to tailored marketing and social media campaigns, print and online publicity and direct-to-consumer Ecommerce.”

Lloyd said that Pan Macmillan has been in conversations with agents, estates and rights holders who are, “only too aware of the long tail opportunities available to them but don’t necessarily have the infrastructure or skills to be fully exploit them. Working with Macmillan Compass, we can offer a powerful combination of our digital skills and expertise, our infrastructure, supply chain relationships and editorial and marketing teams to fully exploibnt backlist rights.”
