Facebook has acquired Push Pop Press, a digital book maker with a focus on the iPad and iPhone. According to a statement on Push Pop's website, "Facebook isn't planning to start publishing digital books, [but] the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories."

Earlier this year, Push Pop teamed with Melcher Media to release for the iPhone and iPad Our Choice, the fully-interactive book on the climate crisis by Al Gore.

Both Facebook and Push Pop have denied speculation that the social networking site is moving into e-book publishing to compete with the likes of Amazon.com, Apple, and Google. Instead, the acquisition of Push Pop could be a way to expand the site's interactive platform--Facebook is already a popular gaming site and has also recently been testing streaming movies.

In their statement, Push Pop stated that "there are no plans to continue publishing new titles or building out our publishing platform that was in private beta."
