Oasis Family Media is bringing some pulp to the audiobook world. Paperback Classics, a new audiobook imprint, will feature vintage pulp paperbacks from the 1930s to the 1970s and will include works of gothic romance, science-fiction, fantasy, mystery, and other such genres from previous eras.

“These are some of the books that I devoured growing up—pulp paperbacks sparked creativity and a love of literature for generations,” Steve Smith, Oasis Audio publisher, said in a statement. “From prolific gothic romance voices like Marilyn Ross to the legendary Ron Goulart to brilliant science-fiction author Otis Adelbert Kline, I’m honored to bring these adventures to a new stage.”

The first full series to release under Paperback Classics is Dark Shadows, a 32-book series penned by Marilyn Ross that was originally published alongside creator Dan Curtis's eponymous cult-classic gothic soap opera, which aired on ABC from 1966 to 1971. Kathryn Leigh Scott, an actress who played two characters on the TV series, will narrate the full audiobook collection.

Other acquisitions include the 1970s Flash Gordon series, which Oasis will begin to roll out later this fall, and a collection of science fiction adventures by Otis Adelbert Kline, which will start to release in spring 2020. The audiobooks will be available on all major platforms, the publisher said.
